I <3 Zack Morris

Posted by: Caitlin McIntosh on: April 6, 2012

If you had the power to bring back one of your favorite childhood TV shows, what would it be & why?

I used to sit in front of the TV eating my fruity pebbles while my mom got ready for work every single day. The one show that I believed trumped all others was Saved by the Bell. Although the show has been playing as re-runs since it originally ended in ’93, they we’re new to my 7 year old mind, and I absolutely loved the show and couldn’t get enough. At one point, I would try and put together an outfit identical to what Kelly Kapowski was wearing that morning. I also decided to change my name to Kelly around that age, fortunately that did not work out so well.

Saved by the Bell was the epitome of what I ‘thought’ high school was going to be like, and I couldn’t wait until the day that Zack Morris and I would actually meet so that he could fall in love with me and we would then get married. Life didn’t turn out exactly like this for me, but the show did provide good, clean entertainment that a lot of shows for children and young adults is now lacking.

I still watch the re-runs from time to time, but it’s never the same as the first time I saw the episode – wide eyed with a scrunchie in my hair and a mouth full of fruity pebbles. Zack Morris, I will love you forever…

StatesBORING

Posted by: Caitlin McIntosh on: March 27, 2012

What are your favorite things to do in the ‘Boro? If someone who had never been to Statesboro were to come to town, where would you take them? Why?

This is kind of a hard question for me since I am in my fourth year here and can barely even stand  the name any longer.

If someone had never been to Statesboro before, they aren’t missing much. However, if for some reason I knew someone who actually wanted to come visit, I’m sure I could think of some place to take them.

I hate to be a cliche GSU student, but I would definitely take them to the bar area, aka ‘The Plaza.’ It really is, what I would consider, the most popular place in the city. If that wasn’t enough (which it usually is for most  visitors I run into), the next day I would probably take them on a tour of the campus. In this tour we would visit places like the library (my second home), Russell Union, the more major academic buildings, and greek row. I would then finish off the visit by going out to eat at Chops and then to Yo Berry for the delicious, heaven on spoon they like to call “fro yo.”

Freshman year…

Posted by: Caitlin McIntosh on: March 23, 2012

If I could go back to freshman year, there is a HUGE list of things that I would do differently. I did enjoy a majority of the experiences I had, because they caused me to mature and become more of an adult; However, there were various times when I was just the opposite of adult-like.

The number one thing that I would do differently would be to go to class. I had horrible attendance, so actually going could have helped my GPA drastically since I actually did all of the work assigned.

Second, I would have taken more of the opportunities given to me to attend certain events. Freshman year I focused a great deal on art and spent a lot of time alone developing my photography, so I could have had more of a college experience and benefited by being more social.

Lastly, the third thing that I would do different would be to develop my study skills. I never had to study in high school because school came easy to me. Once I entered college I continued not to study, so I had to work on my study skills over the past 3 years since then. I could have saved a lot of time and effort by already being great at organizing and studying material.

Bookity Book Books… for PR professionals

Posted by: Caitlin McIntosh on: March 7, 2012

The following article discusses 10 books that PR professionals should read. How many from the list have you read? How many do you want to read? What are other books you would add to this list and how would they be helpful to PR professionals?

From the list I have only read “Are You There Vodka? It’s me, Chelsea,” but I am in the process of reading “The Hunger Games” series. The books “Still Alice” and “Me Talk Pretty One Day” books that seem to fit my reading interest. I’m not exactly sure what my specific reading interest is, but if I had to guess, it would probably be to have some type of relation to the main topic or era the book was written for.

Viewing the different writing styles of various books can help broaden the creativity of PR professionals. Innovation is a key part in public relations, so learning more about others’ creativity can help broaden just that of up and coming PR professionals.

By the way, any book written by Chelsea Handler is a gem in my little library. I can never get enough of her crude, boundary-crossing writing style.

Dream Job

Posted by: Caitlin McIntosh on: March 1, 2012

What is your career dream job? How do you plan to shine among all the others wanting the same dream job? What are you doing now to achieve the end goal of your “dream job”?

If I could have absolutely any job in the world, it would be to work as the Marketing Field Director for the Miss America Organization. With this job I would be in charge of working with all 53 (yes 53) state organizations to assist in their growth. This position calls for someone who can build a brand and gain attention where it is needed in order to increase sales. Having a large amount of my life devoted to pageants and the Miss American Organization, there really isn’t any other job to compare to this one.

Because I have been an actual participant in the Miss America Organization, I feel that I would stand out among the other applicants for this position (who are usually men). Most women who transition from competitors to employees usually become pageant directors, or other jobs that are not as business focused.

I am currently working towards obtaining a degree so that I am even applicable for the position, but after I graduate I plan on continuing my vast amount of community service, as well as continue my relations with the board members of the Miss America Organization. Knowing a good bit of people in the industry, nation wide, can really open a lot of doors while working towards this particular “dream job.”

Time Traveler

If time travel were possible, what would you do? Where would you go? Why did you choose to visit there? If you were to go back in time, would you worry about how one small change could affect the future?

Having a choice of traveling anywhere at any time, I would choose to go back to Woodstock, New York on August 15, 1969. This was the beginning of what is known as a moment in time that changed rock n roll history forever. The Woodstock Festival was a 3 day experience full of peace and music. This was a like a breath of fresh air for people in the United States because the Vietnam War had just begun earlier that year. Having the escape of a music festival is so completely different with the way that people deal with their feelings towards war today.

When most people think of Woodstock they think of the ghastly amount of drugs used, but that has nothing to do with why I’d love to have been there. It’s the fact that despite the turmoil our country was undergoing, everyone at that festival came together and let music heal their woulds.
